Labradorite (Spectrolite, Larkivite) is a stone of transformation, that was first discovered in the 1700's, in Labrador, Canada. Labradorite usually has a blue to grey background with iridescence blues, greens, yellows, oranges, reds and rarely purple colours.
Yellow Labradorite is also a rare occurrence with iridescence blues and greens. According to the Inuit Nation, the people missed the Northern Lights during the long days of the summer months, and asked Creator to return them; Creator gave them Labradorite so that they may be able to gaze at Northern Lights.
Spectrolite, is a rare variety of Labradorite, found in Finland in 1941. Found during the Second World War, it gave the people of Finland hope for a new era in their independence. A gift from Mother Nature, Spectrolite is considered the most beautiful of Labradorite that can show a full spectrum of rainbow effects and butterfly effects. It has a very dark, black base and is considered a semi-precious gem. The lines that break up the colours also tend to be more pronounced and do not blend like those in Labradorite.
Larkivite is another form of Labradorite, it is grey in background with flecks of colours. Often used as countertops or tiles.
