This gemstone is Black Obsidian a type of volcanic glass, with inclusions of iron in the form of Magnetite or Hematite creating the brownish coloured patches in the gemstone. Most of the Mahogany Obsidian comes from Mexico, but it is available in many countries.  

Mahogany Obsidian works on the lower three Chakras and assists with strength, creativity, sexuality, passion, and protection. Beneficial for healing negative energies from old wounds in the Sacral Chakra.
