Kambaba Jasper, also known as Crocodile Jasper or Green Stromatolite Jasper, is a fossilized stromatolite algae. It is believed to have originated in Madagascar. Stromatolites are layered formations created by the growth of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) in shallow water. Over time, these formations become fossilized, and Kambaba Jasper is the result of such fossilization.

Kambaba Jasper is recognized for its distinctive dark green to black orbicular patterns on a green background. The orbicular patterns resemble the eyes of a crocodile, contributing to its nickname. The dark circles or orbs are created by concentric layers of algae growth. The stone has a smooth and often polished surface when used in jewelry or carvings.

The colors and patterns of Kambaba Jasper make each piece unique. It is commonly found in cabochons, beads, and carvings. While the primary color is green, you may also notice variations in intensity and hue.
