Larvikite is known for its distinctive appearance. It is typically dark gray to black in color and often features beautiful iridescent flashes, known as "schiller" or labradorescence. This optical effect is caused by the presence of minerals like feldspar, pyroxene, and amphibole. The stone has a fine-grained texture, and its polished surface reveals the play of colors within.
