First encountered by Europeans in 1811 in Greenland, Sodalite gained significance in 1891 when extensive deposits were uncovered in Ontario, Canada. Typically opaque, some crystals may exhibit transparency to translucency. Known for its royal blue color, Sodalite may also manifest in shades of grey, yellow, green, or pink, often displaying mottling with white veins or patches. Occasionally confused with Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite rarely contains Pyrite, providing a visual means of differentiation. The name is derived from the Latin term "sodalitas," meaning comrade.
