Appearance-wise, green kyanite typically occurs as elongated prismatic crystals with a vitreous to pearly luster. It can display various shades of green, ranging from pale or mint green to deep forest green, depending on the concentration of impurities. The crystals often exhibit well-defined striations along their length, giving them a distinctive and attractive appearance.

They have a Mohs hardness of around 4.5 to 7, making them relatively durable and suitable for use in jewelry and lapidary work.
