Back Agate is a form of chalcedony that contains banding patterns and layers, a main characteristic of all Agate gemstones. The colours of the layers are a combination of black with dark grey layers, or black with dark brown layers.Gemstones that come with white layers are known as Black Onyx, while those without layers are called Black Chalcedony. Black Agate is a translucent and is found in Brazil, Mexico, USA, Uruguay, and Madagascar.
