This gemstone is Black Obsidian a type of volcanic glass, with inclusions of iron in the form of Magnetite or Hematite creating the brownish coloured patches in the gemstone. Most of the Mahogany Obsidian comes from Mexico, but it is available in many countries.  

Mahogany Obsidian works on the lower three Chakras and assists with strength, creativity, sexuality, passion, and protection. Beneficial for clearing negative energies from old wounds in the Sacral Chakra. It is said to help dissolve ancestral patterns of abuse, negativity, hatred or fear that are ingrained into the emotional body. Believed to be a useful gemstone to decrease pain during birth. Mahogany Obsidian provides a detox effect for emotional ties that no longer serve our highest good.
