Mushroom Rhyolite, also known as Mushroom Jasper, it is found in the areas northwest of Phoenix, South America, Arizona and eastern Pennsylvania in the U.S.A. Mushroom Rhyolite gets its name from the repeating grey pattern that every so often looks like a mass of growing mushrooms. On certain pieces, the grey overlapping shapes the Rhyolite, on others, the grey is followed by a reddish circle of light that surrounds the outside of the grey mushrooms. Outside the reddish circle of light, the host rock can be of a green colour. If you are fortunate enough, you may get a piece that is endowed with grey, red and green colours that create a very attractive combination.
