Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcano glass formed during eruptions when the lava cools rapidly. It is black to blackish green, smooth and glassy. Black Obsidian could be fashioned into many tools, and its’ uses dates back to the Stone Age when it was utilized for arrowheads, spear points, knives, axe heads, scrapers and other various cutting instruments. Ancient carved status made from Obsidian have been found. Throughout history, Obsidian was used for everything from food preparation to tattooing and magic. Native American cultures utilized Obsidian to sharpen their inner sight during spiritual ceremonies.  

Black Obsidian’s vibrations are grounding and protecting. Shielding against unwanted energies, it makes a great talisman. Many cultures wore Obsidian for this purpose.
